The diocese of Kribi lies in the south of Cameroon, on the Gulf of Guinea. It covers an area of some 4300 square miles (11,000 km²) and roughly half of its 250,000 inhabitants are Catholics.
There are 28 religious sisters in the diocese, from eight different congregations, who care for those in need, and especially for the children, young people, mothers, the sick and elderly, as well as for the street children and the indigenous jungle dwellers, formerly known as pygmies, who live in particularly precarious circumstances today. At the same time the sisters are involved in the parishes, in catechetical work and in preparing people for reception of the Sacraments.
The sisters do not receive any remuneration for their tireless and invaluable work of service, and while they do receive a small level of support from the diocese, the recent pandemic and the general economic crisis in the country have brought the local Church almost to its knees. And meanwhile, the needs of the people have only grown all the greater, while the sisters themselves have still less than before.
This is the reason why Bishop Damase Zinga Atangana has turned to ACN for help for these 28 religious sisters. Now, thanks to the generous support of our benefactors we were able to provide 14,000 Euros to cover their most urgent needs and also the cost of their health insurance.
All the sisters of the diocese of Kribi want to express their heartfelt thanks to all of you for your help!
