St Michael’s Parish: A vehicle for a vast rural community

St Michael’s Parish, located in Bozoum in the northwest of the Central African Republic, has successfully acquired an all-terrain vehicle to serve over 70 small villages scattered across the African bush. In this vast and underdeveloped area where most people live in great poverty, the Church remains a vital support for spiritual, psychological, and material needs. Previously, priests faced perilous journeys across rickety bridges and dirt roads that turned into a sea of mud during the rainy season.

Extreme challenges for St Michael’s Parish

Essential logistics for the mission, such as fetching medicines for the dispensary, often involve long journeys into neighbouring Cameroon. Father Marco Poggi, an Italian Carmelite, explained that the repair costs for his old vehicle had become an «unsustainable burden». Constant breakdowns due to a worn-out motor and ruined suspension frequently left the faithful waiting in vain for their priest.

Thanks to the generosity of ACN benefactors, 37,454 Euros were raised for a new all-terrain vehicle, which has now reached the parish to the great rejoicing of the community.

A sign of hope and presence

Father Marco shared a message of deep gratitude for the support that ensures the Church’s continued presence among the people:

“It is not simply a vehicle that you have provided us with; rather your help has made it possible for thousands of people to find new hope, receive the Sacraments, access vital medical supplies, receive an education and experience the concrete reality of our presence among them”.

The mission continues to pray daily for the benefactors who make this ministry possible, ensuring that every kilometre driven is a result of universal solidarity.
