Amid the economic and social crisis and the devastation caused by an almost forgotten war, Christians in Lebanon and Syria remain the greatest victims. The Church present in these countries asks for our help to support the Catholic families who still remain there.

A FORGOTTEN WAR

The war that began in 2011 has resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths and injuries, as well as over 6.6 million refugees and 6.7 million internally displaced people. In addition to the humanitarian crisis, 90% of people in Syria live below the poverty line.

The Christian population has decreased drastically, from 1.5 million to just 400,000. Many have been forced to flee the country, putting Christianity at risk of disappearing entirely in the region.

FAITH CANNOT DIE IN SYRIA AND LEBANON

ACN has been helping Christians in Syria since the war began in 2011. To this date, ACN has supported over 1,237 projects*, many of which are essential or of great urgency.

The situation remains critical and will continue for years to come. That’s why the Church in Syria has asked ACN for help. Priests and nuns who remain in the country need our support to help and give hope to materially and spiritually devastated people. Young people need reasons to stay and think about starting a family.

“Both Lebanon and Syria, two Biblical countries, are being emptied of their Christian populations, due to the wars and economic crises that have ruined them, plunging families into hunger and misery”.

 – Regina Lynch, the foundation’s Director of Projects –
