Red Week, known as Red Week, was launched for the first time in 2015, and its purpose is to draw the world’s attention to the drama faced by our Christian brothers and sisters, who are subject to attacks, kidnappings and murders because of their faith, but also to make visible all those brave men and women who give their lives and wear themselves out day by day to bring the love of the Gospel to those who need it most.

Sister Gloria Cecilia Nárvaez

Gloria Cecilia Narváez Argoty is a professional in education and educational administration, has been rector of some public and private schools, and has also held administrative positions at the Mariana University of Pasto. But all this takes a back seat when we talk about Sister Gloria, missionary par excellence and living example of faith, resilience and fortitude.

In the midst of her long captivity, suffering severe mistreatment, she had space to reflect on many things, her religious condition, her work as a missionary, and she was able to understand her kidnapping as a real opportunity, which speaks clearly of the temper and maturity of faith that a person like Sister Gloria Cecilia has: “It is an opportunity that God gives me to see my life, how my response to Him has been… a kind of Exodus”.

In the face of suffering, she often recalled the teachings of Blessed Charity Brader: “Be silent, so that God will defend you”, and of her mother, Rosa: “Always be serene, Gloria, always be serene”. Even at times when she was beaten for no reason, or simply because she was praying, she would say to herself: “My God, it is hard to be chained and to receive blows, but I live this moment as You present it to me… And in spite of everything, I would not want any of these gentlemen (her captors) to be harmed”.

Persecuted for being Christians

Nowadays, thousands of Christians in the world are persecuted or have experienced high levels of dsicrimination for their faith. They are true guardians of the faith, that’s to say, our faith! They need help to sustain themselves and keep the faith alive. You can support them, can’t you?
