To ask for freedom from the sins, faults, and dependencies that bind us; for unity and peace in families; for those who suffer sadness, fear, or despair; for those who are imprisoned and unjustly deprived of their freedom; for young people trapped in violence or addiction; for the souls in purgatory and for all who long for a new and free heart to love God.

Entrust your intention to Our Lady of Mercy

What we celebrate

Our Lady of Mercy is known as the Mother of Mercy and Freedom. For centuries, she has interceded for captives, the persecuted, and those who suffer all kinds of chains.

Today he also intercedes for us, so that we may be freed from that which oppresses the heart: sinner, resentment, dependencies, sadness, despair, and human anguish.

“True freedom is freedom from sin” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1731).

By offering a Holy Mass through the intercession of Our Lady of Mercy, you not only present your intention to the Lord, but you also support missionary priests who visit prisons, celebrate the Eucharist in difficult conditions, and bring the light of the Gospel to those who are deprived of their freedom.

True freedom comes from Christ

The Magisterium of the Church teaches us that Christ came to free man from the chains of sin.

“Christ has set us free so that we may be free” (Gal 5:1).
“Man is only truly free when he lives in God’s grace” (St. John Paul II, Homily 1987).

Our prayer, united with the sacrifice of the Mass, is the way to attain that freedom. The Virgin Mary, as Mother of Mercy, reminds us that no one is so lost that they cannot be rescued by God’s love.

What Saint Peter Nolasco tells us

Saint Peter Nolasco, founder of the Order of Mercy, gave his life to rescue captives. His example teaches us that faith is service and mercy.

“Mary is the Mother of freedom because she always leads us to Christ, who breaks our chains” (St. Peter Nolasco).

By joining in this devotion, you too can be an instrument of liberation: first in your own life, and then in the lives of others through solidarity.

Reasons to offer a Mass to Our Lady of Mercy

  • To ask for deliverance from my sins and faults that separate me from God..
  • That the Lord may help me overcome the dependencies, addictions, or bonds that enslave my heart.
  • That unity, peace, and grace may reign in my family, freeing it from all division.
  • To offer reparation for the times I have not lived according to the Gospel.
  • That those who suffer from anxiety, sadness, or despair may find true freedom in Christ.
  • For those in prison, that they may find comfort and hope in Our Lady of Mercy.
  • For those who have been unjustly deprived of their freedom, that they may be strengthened in faith.
  • That young people may be freed from the pressure, emptiness, and violence that enslaves them.
  • For the souls in purgatory, that Christ may soon open the gates of eternal life to them.
  • That, through Mary’s intercession, the Lord may grant me a new and free heart to love.

Each Mass is an act of love that opens invisible doors and kindles the light of mercy.

Special prayer to Our Lady of Mercy

Virgin of Mercy,
Mother of freedom and refuge of captives,
look upon us with compassion in our struggles and inner chains.
Free us from sin, sadness, despair, and everything that separates us from your Son.
Intercede so that peace, grace, and the joy of the Gospel may reign in our hearts.
We offer you our intentions at Holy Mass,
trusting that your intercession will lead us to true freedom in Christ.

Amen.
