Help support the education and well-being of Christian children in Nigeria.
The Diocese of Maiduguri, located in northeastern Nigeria, is the country’s largest diocese. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing conflict with the Islamist group Boko Haram, more than 2.2 million people have been displaced in the area. The Diocese has suffered greatly from the conflict, with over 200 churches, schools, hospitals, shops, and private homes destroyed. As a result, children’s education has been severely impacted, which has a ripple effect on their future prospects.
Currently, 90% of refugees reside in four camps located near the town of Pulka, where the Nigerian army provides security. Father Christopher, who serves as the parish priest of Pulka, has estimated that around 14,000 Catholics, including 9,000 children, live in these camps in basic tents. Unfortunately, many of these children are unable to attend school due to their parents’ inability to afford the school fees and materials.
The situation in Nigeria is truly heartbreaking, particularly with regards to the children. Sadly, it seems that the world either fails to notice or actively chooses to ignore their plight. Are these innocent children also invisible to you?
Project goal:
Our goal is to assist Father Christopher in reopening St. Paul’s Catholic School in Pulka, which was forced to close in 2014 due to terrorist attacks. The school will provide education to 700 internally displaced children from the Pulka community: 425 girls and 275 boys. The aim of the project is to support the Diocese of Maiduguri in covering the school fees for these children for a period of three years.
