Every day hundreds of men, women and children arrive at Necoclí beach, in the Colombian Caribbean. What was once known as a bustling tourist point, is now famous for its stream of migrants who risk the dangerous route, with little more than the clothes on their backs, in the hope of getting to the USA. The religious sisters who live in the region are a face of mercy and compassion for these travelers, with their suitcases full of misfortune and bad experiences.

The work of these religious sisters is fundamental, as many migrants will only have one chance to receive material, spiritual, and psychological assistance. Sister Gloria Gelpud, from the Franciscan Sisters of Mary Immaculate, explains that «it’s a population that’s constantly in movement. Those who are here today may be gone tomorrow. By getting there early, we have the opportunity to be near them and listen to them.» Many migrants depart from the Necoclí docks to reach Panama by sea, putting their lives at risk, while others cross the dangerous Darién Gap, a dense, mountainous, tropical jungle along the land border.
Indifference is the worst evil
These migrants in Necoclí are in a precarious situation with limited access to material, spiritual, and psychological assistance. In their quest for a better life, many risk their lives and safety. The religious sisters are making tireless efforts to provide help to these migrants, but they require your assistance to continue their crucial work.
