One Million Children Praying the Rosary is the global initiative organized by the pontifical foundation Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), inviting children, families, schools, and parishes worldwide to join a week of prayer from 1 to 7 October. The campaign will begin with a prayer vigil in Rome on 1 October and culminate on 7 October, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Preparations are already underway from indigenous communities in the Bolivian Amazon to parishes in Sudan, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Sierra Leone.
Global expansion of One Million Children Praying the Rosary
A new feature of the 2026 initiative is its structure as a week of prayer, allowing dioceses, parishes, schools, and families to choose the day that best suits their local pastoral schedule while remaining united for peace and unity. The campaign is inspired by the message of Fatima: “In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph.”
In the official invitation, Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of ACN International and Prefect of the Dicasterio for Promoting Christian Unity, emphasized Mary as a model of faith and prayer. The invitation places the initiative against the backdrop of global suffering, quoting Christ’s words:
“In the world you will have trouble. But take courage; I have overcome the world.”
International testimonies from Sudan to the Amazon
Reports sent to ACN illustrate the campaign’s global reach. In war-torn Sudan, Fr. Franck Mandozi from the Pastoral Region of Kosti confirmed local participation:
“Indeed, Sudan and many parts of the world are in need of the intercession of Our Lady for peace in the world. With this in mind, we shall encourage children in our different parishes and schools”.
In the Bolivian Amazon, Sister Patricia Alejandra Botello López reported on preparations within a T’siman indigenous community:
“We have already been doing this in Tsimané and Spanish since before 13 May, due to the dramatic situation we have been experiencing in Bolivia for several months. But now we will strengthen these efforts in order to unite ourselves spiritually with you.”
In Zimbabwe, St. Christopher’s Parish in Bulawayo will gather children on 4 October, with parish priest Fr. Charles Mafurutu planning visits to remote Mass centers. In Paraguay, Radio Pa’i Puku will broadcast live from San Eugenio de Mazenod Parish. Additional confirmations have arrived from Ethiopia, Mozambique, and Sierra Leone.
Origins and ecclesial support
The campaign draws inspiration from words attributed to Saint Padre Pio: “When one million children pray the Rosary, the world will change.” Founded in Venezuela in 2005, it has expanded into a worldwide movement across every continent.
ACN provides prayer materials and an online registration portal to display the global map of participation. This year, World Rosary Day joins the campaign for the first time alongside long-standing partners: the Shrine of Fatima, the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, and the World Apostolate of Fatima.
