What we celebrate
On August 15, the Church joyfully celebrates that Mary, Mother of God, was assumed body and soul into heaven. This dogma, proclaimed by Pope Pius XII, confirms that Mary did not know the corruption of the tomb, because she lived fully united to Christ.
The Assumption is a promise and a prophecy: What God has done in her, he will also do with us if we remain faithful. Therefore, this solemnity is also a feast of hope, consolation and victory.
